Welcome to the Golden Gate Computer Society
The Golden Gate Computer Society, a non-profit organization, is one of the foremost PC user groups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In a nutshell, we are "users helping users".
We offer monthly General Meetings (open to the public without charge), numerous smaller Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and occasional classes held in our classroom in San Anselmo, a monthly newsletter, discounts at various providers of hardware, software and computer services, and a program to refurbish used computers for schools.
We began in 1981, shortly after the first IBM personal computer came to market. Our members include expert and novice computer users alike. We are retirees, CPAs, engineers, doctors, hobbyists, housewives, secretaries, computer professionals, students, lawyers and business-persons of all ages.
Some of us depend on computer knowledge for our livelihood; others are beginners with their first computers. The common bond among the Society's membership is an interest in computers and their technology, and a willingness to share that interest, knowledge and experience.
The Society’s aim is to provide answers to members’ questions, and to help all learn more about this incredibly vast and fascinating field. We strive to educate, encourage and advance members' computer competence and enjoyment, as well as to provide a friendly forum for the exchange of ideas and problem solving.
Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Classes
GGCS sponsors numerous Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and occasional classes, which are live demonstrations of the GGCS motto “users helping users”. GGCS members and their families may attend SIGs and classes without charge. Non-members are invited to sample any SIG meeting one time without charge; a $5 fee is charged non-members thereafter.
Newsletters
The 16-page GGCS newsletter is published monthly and mailed to all members, Marin libraries, various computer stores and advertisers. Extra copies may be available at the monthly General Meetings. ($16 of the annual membership dues is designated for the Newsletter).
